The aim of the Maitreya Universal Education
Project is to offer educational programmes that will inspire
students to become leaders in their communities and, through
the practice of kindness, compassion and universal responsibility,
bring peace, happiness and well-being into the lives of others.
In particular, the project will:
- provide Universal Education schools for disadvantaged
children in Bodhgaya and Kushinagar regardless of religion,
caste, sex or economic status.
- help children develop the qualities of loving-kindness,
compassion, a sense of universal responsibility and ethical
values.
- conduct social outreach/work experience programs for
older children and vocational training relevant to local
needs.
- offer community education programs for adults promoting
literacy, good health, hygiene and environmental awareness.
- promote traditional art and craft forms and cottage
industries employing women from village communities.
- train teachers in the principles and practices of Universal
Education and good management practice.
